It would seem that the game had the makings of at least a decent spinoff in the popular series, though the lack of usual Nintendo polish showed. Basic Mario elements included jumping on enemies to defeat them as well as power-ups such as the Super Mushroom, the pyrokinetic Fire Flower, and the invincibility-granting Starman.
